Privacy Policy

Dispatch is a location-based scavenger hunt. We designed it to collect as little personal information as possible. This page explains what data the app uses, where it goes, and what choices you have.

Information we use

  • Location (GPS). While you are playing a quest, the app reads your device’s GPS coordinates to show distance and direction to the next location and to detect when you have arrived. Your location is processed on your device and is not sent to our servers.
  • Device orientation. The compass reads your device’s heading from the motion sensors so it can point toward your destination. This data stays on your device and is not stored.
  • Quest progress. Quest codes you have entered, locations you have unlocked, and answers you have submitted are saved locally on your device (in browser storage / IndexedDB) so you can resume a quest. This data is not uploaded.
  • Quest content. When you load the app, it fetches public quest data (titles, locations, questions, images) from our servers. These are normal web requests and may be logged by our hosting provider for security and reliability.
  • Email address (optional). You can play quests without an account. If you choose to sign in — for example, to create or manage quests — we collect your email address to send you a sign-in code and to identify your account. Sign-in emails are delivered through our email provider, Resend.
  • Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the app is used in aggregate — for example, which screens are visited, the type of device and app (web or mobile), and the approximate region derived from your IP address. Analytics data does not include your GPS location, quest answers, or email address.

What we do not collect

  • We do not require an account to play.
  • We do not collect your name, phone number, or contacts. Your email address is collected only if you choose to sign in.
  • We do not show ads or use advertising SDKs.
  • We do not sell your data.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of services to run Dispatch: Vercel hosts the app and its database, Resend delivers sign-in and support emails, and Google Analytics provides the aggregate usage statistics described above. These providers process data on our behalf to operate the app; we do not share your personal information with third parties for their own use.

Permissions

On mobile, the app asks for permission to use your location and motion sensors. You can deny or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings. Without location access, navigation features will be unavailable, but you can still browse quests.

Children

Dispatch is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Playing does not require an account, and accounts are intended for adults who create and manage quests.

Clearing your data

Because quest progress is stored locally, you can erase it at any time by uninstalling the mobile app or clearing the app’s site data in your browser. If you created an account, you can also request an export or deletion of your account data — see “Your data” below.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to how Dispatch handles data, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above.

Your data

You can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account. You don’t need to be signed in.
